General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), in partnership with International Labor Organization (ILO), launched the 2nd phase of “Waei” (Arabic for ‘aware’) Center’s activities, aimed to increasing workers’ awareness of their legal rights and employers’ responsibilities in this regard. According to a GFJTU statement on Thursday, the center expanded its scope of work and its services at this stage, as persons with disabilities were included in its currently implemented awareness sessions. Implemented with support of the Norwegian and Swedish embassies, awareness sessions will be held in cooperation with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD). The center will launch an e-platform to present all data related to labor and social security laws, information sources about labor rights, and will also feature a series of digital videos to explain smoothly workers’ rights guaranteed by legislation, the statement said. The statement indicated that this stage of “Waei” action process will see launch of awareness-raising media campaigns in partnership with the relevant authorities and partners. This effort will also provide specialized training for trade unionists, aimed to enhancing their capabilities to integrate gender issues into collective labor agreements concluded with employers in various activities and economic sectors. “Waei ” center also seeks to provide legal information smoothly with the specialized legal advisor via number (0770442244), and also provides the necessary legal assistance through a partnership that brings together GFJTU with Justice Center for Legal Aid (JCLA) in cases that require legal assistance and judicial procedures, the statement noted. The center plays an “important” role in protecting workers from wrong practices in the work environment and highlights mechanism to refer complaints and disputes to the specialized union to take action to defend labor rights in accordance with legal procedures. The center will also hold multiple awareness sessions and free counseling days in a number of the Kingdom’s governorates.
