Riyadh: Nestled in Northern Borders Region lies a rich tapestry of rare wild plants, including the delicate Bindweed (Convolvulus pilosellifolius Desr). This perennial herbaceous plant features a growth pattern that ranges from creeping to slightly upright, with stems branching from the base and reaching about 70 centimeters in length. The lower leaves are elongated and lance-shaped, measuring approximately six cm in length by one cm in width, while the upper leaves are smaller and sessile.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Bindweeds thrive in loamy clay soil and are sparsely found in low-lying areas that collect rainwater. They are considered moderately important pasture plants, contributing to local vegetation cover. Flowers bloom in early summer, appearing in clusters of one to three, with colors ranging from light pink to white and a diameter of up to 1.2 cm, enhancing the region's natural beauty.
Environmental regulations have been crucial in preserving the region's diverse flora, aiding the resurgence of many plant species at risk of extinction, including Bindweeds.
