Chiba: Reports of flood damage continued to rise three days after record-breaking rains hit Chiba Prefecture, east of the Japanese capital, Tokyo. The death toll has climbed to 10, with more than 1,300 homes reported flooded.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Chiba prefectural government said on Sunday that one person remained missing, while more than 1,000 houses had been inundated by floodwaters. The number of flooded homes increased from earlier counts reported by local authorities on Saturday as officials continued to assess damage from the torrential rainfall that fell between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
The Japan Meteorological Agency had issued Level 5 emergency warnings for landslides in several municipalities in the prefecture, including Chiba and neighboring Ichihara, before all alerts were downgraded as the rain eased.
