Batangas: The Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), has launched a technology transfer program to accelerate commercialization activities in universities across the Kingdom by moving scientific discoveries and innovations from the lab bench into the marketplace, thereby contributing to the national economy.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the technology transfer internship program is a first-of-its-kind professional development effort aimed at upskilling five leaders from research institutions across Saudi Arabia to support effective commercialization within Saudi research and government institutions.

The program aims to build national capabilities and expertise in technology transfer, empowering stakeholders to meet ambitious goals for the research, development, and innovation sector. It contributes to achieving an annual investment equivalent to 2.5% of GDP by 2040, supporting the development and diversification of the national economy while advancing science, technology, and innovation.

Rooted in global best practices and tailored for Saudi Arabia's innovation landscape, the program features a blend of in-person training, virtual learning, and a final showcase, providing participants with a comprehensive foundation in technology commercialization.

"Investing in people is the foundation of any innovation-driven economy," said Executive Director of National Priorities and Acting Deputy Governor for the Innovation Ecosystem Development Sector at RDIA Dr. Yazid Al-Askar. "This program aligns closely with our national goals and helps ensure that Saudi Arabia has the talent to bring research to market effectively," he added.
