Makkah Municipality Holds Rockslide Simulation to Boost Rainy Season Emergency Response

General

Makkah: The Holy Makkah Municipality conducted a rockslide simulation exercise in Makkah, collaborating with the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Saudi Red Crescent, and several other relevant government agencies. The exercise was designed to enhance inter-sectoral integration, unify efforts during emergencies, facilitate information exchange, and improve the efficiency of rapid response to maintain optimal traffic flow and public safety.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the simulation involved monitoring and analyzing potential risks in Makkah, especially during the rainy season, using precise scientific methods, including studying geological formations and land slopes to identify locations most vulnerable to rainwater accumulation or flash floods originating from nearby areas. Based on these studies, the municipality coordinates with the ministry and other relevant authorities to implement necessary measures and conduct simulations. This proactive approach allows them to address various potential risks and manage the possibility of heavy rainfall, while also leveraging existing flood drainage development projects in Makkah.

The municipality emphasized that these simulations are part of its ongoing efforts to enhance preparedness and raise the level of public safety, ultimately ensuring a safe urban environment for residents and visitors of Makkah.
