The Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF) issued the first version of a sustainable local development index report for 2023, developed in cooperation with ministries, the Department of Statistics, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) office in Jordan. This scientific indicator was adopted by the government to measure sustainable local development in different governorates and determine budget ceilings for the governorates' capital expenditures within the general budget. The JSF has highlighted the significance of the indicator as a quantitative and scientific tool for measuring progress in sustainable development at the governorate level by evaluating and measuring progress in five main areas: economic activities, education, health, infrastructure, and social situation. The results of the index show that Amman is the most developed governorate with a score of 70.4 out of 100. Balqa came in second with 47.1 points, followed by Aqaba with 45.2 points, and Karak with 43.7 points. Mafraq scored the lowest with only 24.8 points in overall local development indicators. Six out of 12 governorates scored below the average of the local development index, which was 40.4 points. !3General!4
