Rome: The International Dates Council (IDC) is participating in the First FAO Global Exhibition organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held in Rome, Italy, from October 10 to 13. The exhibition is part of the organization's 80th anniversary celebrations, themed 'From Seeds to Foods.'
According to Saudi Press Agency, the council's participation features an informative pavilion showcasing its role in supporting and developing the global dates sector, and in promoting food security and agricultural sustainability. This participation reflects the council's mission to highlight dates' economic and nutritional value as a strategic product contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The IDC pavilion presents the council's international programs and joint initiatives with member countries, along with publications, books, and research studies that document its efforts to develop the dates sector. It also highlights projects in research, marketing, and geographical diversification of dates, as well as the council's efforts to enhance the added value of date products, support production and fair trade policies, and promote dates as an integral component of the global food security system.
The First FAO Global Exhibition serves as an international platform that showcases the journey of food from seeds to foods, highlighting innovations, modern agricultural technologies, and sustainable production practices across various agricultural and food sectors.
The exhibition brings together member countries, international organizations, research institutions, and companies operating in agriculture and food security, aiming to strengthen international cooperation and knowledge exchange, and to support global efforts toward building a sustainable food system that contributes to stability and resilience in global food supplies.
