World Weightlifting Championship 2023 Kicks off in Riyadh

Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC), inaugurated the 2023 World Senior Weightlifting Championship yesterday on behalf of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, President of SOPC.

The championship serves as a qualification event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The championship’s opening was attended by Mohammed Jalood, President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), as well as the heads of the participating national federations at the Ministry of Sports Hall of the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex .

In the opening speech, Prince Fahd welcomed the participating delegations, announcing the opening of the 2023 World Weightlifting Championship and wished success for all participants.

During the ceremony, the President of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Al-Harbi, stated that the Kingdom’s sports are experiencing a comprehensive revival in terms of hosting or participation, thanks to the generous and limitless support of the wise leadership and the keen attention of sports leadership.

Al-Harbi highlighted the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 related to the sports sector, which encourages sports federations to host major international sports events and activities.

Meanwhile, the IWF President commended the Saudi Weightlifting Federation and all those involved in the organizing committee for their efforts in facilitating obstacles and working tirelessly throughout the day for the comfort of the sports delegations.

He also extended his gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership for its significant support of global sports, contributing to the emergence of a prominent player on the world stage, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
