According to Saudi Press Agency, men carry and use Sabha on various occasions, and the diversity of its designs, materials, and specifications is reflected in its market value. The Sabha consists of several key components, beginning with the beads, which typically number 33 or 99 and are strung together on a strong, flexible cord that allows smooth movement.
The Sabha also includes spacers or counters, placed between groups of beads to serve as counting markers. Enthusiasts and collectors of various types of Sabhas note that the value of a Sabha depends largely on the materials from which it is made. Natural materials include amber, which emits a distinctive fragrance when handled, as well as coral, sandalwood, and rare gemstones such as agate in its various colors, blue turquoise, and ruby.
Manufactured and treated materials are also used, including Faturan, known for its resistance to heat, acrylic, and transparent resin beads, which have opened the way for modern designs featuring bold colors that appeal to contemporary tastes.
In Saudi society, the Sabha extends beyond its religious function as a tool for counting supplications and prayers after worship, serving instead as a symbol of authenticity and cultural and social belonging through which its owner expresses personal taste. The Sabha also holds a prominent historical status as a souvenir for tourists visiting the Kingdom, as well as for visitors, Umrah performers, and pilgrims.
