According to Saudi Press Agency, in earlier years, families gathered after performing Taraweeh prayers. They engaged in games such as Baloot and Carrom. These sessions were marked by friendly competition and strengthened social ties. They made use of the extended evenings that often lasted until shortly before suhoor.
By the mid-1990s, a gradual shift occurred with the spread of home video game consoles. These devices became common in households and introduced new forms of entertainment. Younger generations were particularly drawn to football simulation games such as FIFA. The game became a fixture of Ramadan gatherings. Players took turns competing, while family members watched and interacted, blending sporting enthusiasm with shared amusement.
