Riyadh: Running south from Taif toward Maysan, the tourist route is one of Saudi Arabia's most scenic travel corridors. It offers a rich blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and agricultural attractions across a chain of mountain towns and villages, beginning in Bani Saad, Maysan, and Thaqif, extending to the northern border of Aseer Region.
According to Saudi Press Agency, along the way, travelers encounter the dramatic slopes of Sarawat Mountains, where towering peaks, deep valleys, and terraced farms create sweeping panoramic views. The roadside is lined with juniper and acacia trees, along with native vegetation that flourishes during the rainy season.
The route is also renowned for its seasonal fruit farms, particularly in the highlands of southern Taif and Maysan. Vineyards, pomegranate orchards, fig trees, and prickly pear cactus plantations are among the area's most distinctive attractions, drawing visitors during harvest seasons to purchase fresh produce and experience the region's agricultural heritage.
Beyond its natural appeal, the route is home to several heritage villages, most notably Al-Kalada, in addition to stone forts and castles perched atop mountain peaks. These historic landmarks reflect the region's rich cultural legacy and add a distinctive historical dimension to the visitor experience.
Tour guide Sami Al-Harthi told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the route is among the Kingdom's most diverse tourism destinations, combining nature, heritage, and agriculture within a single geographical area. He said visitors can move seamlessly between historic villages, mountain viewpoints, farms, and rural markets while enjoying ever-changing natural scenery.
The route enjoys a mild summer climate, with temperatures ranging between 18°C and 25°C, Al-Harthi noted. Seasonal rainfall further enhances the beauty of the mountains, valleys, and farmlands, making the area a favored destination for summer vacationers, outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, heritage explorers, and visitors seeking to sample seasonal fruits and locally produced goods.
