Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" and the Ministry of Education, achieved a silver medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad 2024 (APIO 2024). The event, organized virtually by the People's Republic of China, saw the participation of 286 students from 36 countries between May 18 and 19. Adeeb Salem Al-Shehri, a Saudi student in the 3rd secondary grade from the Eastern Education Department, earned the silver medal, marking the first such achievement for the Saudi team in this competition. The Saudi Informatics Team had previously secured three bronze medals in prior participations. Al-Shehri received 2,168 hours of training at Mawhiba, conducted by a group of Saudi and foreign experts, prior to his participation in the APIO competition. This was the fourth participation of the Saudi team in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, bringing Saudi Arabia's total awards tally to five, following the sil ver medal won in this event.
