Dateline: Riyadh: Saudi Arabia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have announced plans to hold a high-level annual conference on emerging markets in AlUla on February 16-17, 2025. This initiative aims to address the challenges and opportunities that emerging market economies face in the current global climate. According to Saudi Press Agency, the Minister of Finance of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Aljadaan, and the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, emphasized the urgency of tackling global shocks such as conflicts, geoeconomic fragmentation, pandemics, climate change, food insecurity, and the digital divide. They noted that these issues, if left unaddressed, could jeopardize improvements in living standards in emerging markets and threaten global growth and stability. The AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies will gather finance ministers, central bank governors, and policymakers from emerging markets, along with leaders from the public and private sectors, international institut ions, and academia. The event is designed to be a platform for exchanging views on economic developments at domestic, regional, and global levels, and for discussing policies and reforms to promote inclusive prosperity and resilience through international cooperation.
