Riyadh: The Saudi AgriFood Tech Alliance has discussed the strategic challenges in achieving the Kingdom's food security targets without compromising the sustainability of national resources, while also highlighting the overall challenges facing the agricultural sector. These discussions were held during the alliance's quarterly meeting at the headquarters of the Arabian Agricultural Services Company (ARASCO) in Riyadh, with the participation of several members.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting addressed key challenges facing the agricultural sector, such as carbon emissions from agricultural operations and the limited availability of agricultural land, emphasizing the need for effective technological solutions. Participants discussed solutions to overcome these issues and achieve sustainability in the sector while preserving natural resources.
The discussions also reviewed current efforts within the agricultural sector and their alignment with national targets to support the alliance's goals of enhancing food security. The talks highlighted the role of agricultural technologies in promoting sustainable production, increasing local content, and reducing reliance on imports.
The alliance is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, part of its executive plan for research and innovation, and its continuous efforts to support those interested in leveraging technological tools and innovation in the agricultural sector. The alliance serves as an umbrella for creating partnerships and collaboration among stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including government entities, commercial companies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations, both within and outside the Kingdom.
