Riyadh: As part of continued efforts to develop Riyadh's public transport system, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City will begin full operations of the Western Station in the Riyadh Metro project on Friday, May 15.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Western Station, one of the project's iconic main stations, marks the completion of the metro's four principal stations and further establishes one of the most prominent urban landmarks within the city's public transportation network.
The launch of the station reflects the rapid progress of Riyadh's public transport system and the development of integrated urban infrastructure aimed at improving quality of life, enhancing mobility efficiency, and increasing reliance on public transportation in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
The Western Station has earned LEED Gold certification for design efficiency and environmental sustainability. It is the largest of the project's four iconic stations, alongside King Abdullah Financial District Station, STC Al Olaya Station, and Qasr Al Hokm Station.
Spanning a total area of 112,000 square meters, the station includes integrated facilities such as commercial spaces, a mosque accommodating 550 worshippers, and public amenities serving Riyadh residents. It also includes public transport parking with a capacity of more than 600 vehicles.
The station is designed to accommodate more than 60,000 rail passengers per hour and 1,300 bus passengers per hour. This underscores its vital role as a major hub within the city's public transport network and enhances connectivity between routes and key destinations across Riyadh.
