Riyadh: Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, has emphasized the critical timing of the international conference for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, as the conflict in Gaza continues for a second year. The minister highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis affecting over two million people, primarily women and children, in the region due to the ongoing hostilities.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Sheikh Mohammed delivered Qatar’s statement to the plenary session of the conference, stressing the historical significance of addressing one of the world’s oldest peace and security issues. He acknowledged the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is co-chairing the conference alongside the French Republic, for their leadership in addressing what he described as one of the last remnants of colonial injustice on the international stage.
Sheikh Mohammed also pointed out the successful mediation efforts led by Qatar in collaboration with the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America. These efforts have resulted in notable achievements, including the facilitation of substantial humanitarian aid into the region and the release of hundreds of prisoners and detainees from both sides involved in the conflict.
