Jeddah: The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at Jeddah Islamic Port thwarted an attempt to smuggle 58.6 kilograms of methamphetamine found hidden inside a shipment of shoes.
According to Saudi Press Agency, ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said customs inspectors uncovered the narcotics concealed in the footwear during routine inspections using advanced security technologies and trained detection methods.
Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to apprehend the designated recipients inside the Kingdom, leading to the arrest of three individuals. Al-Harbi stressed that ZATCA remains steadfast in tightening customs control over all imports and exports to protect society against illicit substances in close cooperation with security partners.
