Qassim’s Date-Derivatives Output Tops 390,000 Tons, Underscoring Palm Cultivation’s Economic Role

General

Qassim: Qassim is one of the Kingdom's leading date-producing regions-in quantity, variety, and quality-and is home to more than 10,000 specialized palm farms. Annual date output in Qassim has reached approximately 528,000 tons, according to the latest count by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, making the region a global center for high-quality date production and related derivatives, and a contributor to boosting non-oil exports and supporting the local economy.

According to Saudi Press Agency, date factories in Qassim play a pivotal role in the Kingdom's agricultural production system. They incorporate advanced technologies and international standards in packaging and sterilization, and have attracted financing for factory owners estimated at SAR313 million. The sector benefits from government support to develop the date industry, improve exports, diversify investment, and provide enabling infrastructure through industrial cities and logistics services.

These factories represent significant economic and developmental value in Qassim, focusing on the region's signature agricultural product: dates. They work to meet demand domestically and abroad, exporting to more than 47 countries, while facing challenges that include plant capacity, transporting products from factories to markets, and preserving quality during transport and storage-especially for dates that require better and longer preservation conditions to maintain their appearance and taste.
