Olive Trees Stand as Environmental Landmark in King Fahd Park in Najran

Najran: Ancient olive trees in King Fahd National Park at Saqam Forest in Najran have emerged as a distinctive environmental icon and an attractive natural landmark, enriching the landscape and reflecting their deep-rooted connection to the land.

According to Saudi Press Agency, some of the olive trees in Saqam Forest are decades old, giving the park a unique character that blends with its scenic surroundings. Intertwined branches and shaded areas create tranquil spaces where visitors can find respite from the sun, enjoy nature, and capture photographs.

Najran Municipality is working to rehabilitate and develop King Fahd National Park into a sustainable environmental and recreational destination that preserves biodiversity and combats desertification. Efforts include developing walking and cycling paths, seating areas, and service facilities, as well as extensive planting of drought-resistant native species, alongside improved irrigation systems, water storage tanks, and measures to protect vegetation from grazing and fires.

Initiatives also include encouraging community participation through tree-planting campaigns, awareness workshops, and partnerships with the private sector and government entities. These efforts have contributed to expanding green spaces, improving air quality, enhancing urban aesthetics, promoting tourism and environmental awareness, and creating volunteer and community health activities.
