Jubail: The National Center for Wildlife (NCW) and the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) have launched an initiative to plant three million mangrove trees in the Jubail Marine Protected Area in support of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030 objectives to enhance coastal vegetation and preserve biodiversity.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this endeavor seeks to rehabilitate degraded natural habitats and strengthen the role of mangrove forests in carbon sequestration, as they are among the most efficient plants in storing carbon dioxide. This contributes to combating climate change, protecting coastal areas from erosion, and providing safe environments for the reproduction of various marine species.
NCW CEO Dr. Mohammed Qurban emphasized the center's commitment to protecting ecosystems and enhancing vegetation cover in protected areas, in line with the Saudi Green Initiative's goal of planting 10 billion trees, including over 100 million mangroves along Saudi coasts, thereby reinforcing the Kingdom's role in addressing global environmental challenges.
