London: The Muslim World League (MWL) welcomed the verdict issued by a British court in London convicting a man who burned a copy of the Holy Quran and shouted offensive slogans against Islam.
According to Saudi Press Agency, MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa emphasized that the verdict is commendable and serves as a model to be promoted in the context of upholding true and civilized principles of freedom of expression.
He reiterated the MWL's firm stance against the misuse of the inherent and protected right to freedom of expression as a cover for committing reprehensible offenses against religious sanctities, provoking the sentiments of believers, destabilizing national communities, and inciting hatred, isolationism, and violence. He also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant against attempts to undermine the cohesion of diverse societies and to disrupt their harmony and peaceful coexistence.
