Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed Al-Hogail inaugurated today the 14th annual Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF). The forum, taking place at the Hilton Riyadh Hotel and Residences on October 6-8, is attended by several local and international leaders, experts, specialists, and investors in human and environmentally friendly services and products.
In his opening speech, Al-Hogail said that this year’s forum addresses a critical issue for the future of the environment and generations to come. He pointed out that green buildings are not merely an architectural or design choice, but rather a necessary step towards achieving the goals of sustainable development and environmental protection, in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.
Al-Hogail noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has witnessed significant progress in the field of green buildings, achieving numerous milestones, including the registration of 2,000 out of 5,000 green building projects in the Arab world. This reflects the Kin
gdom’s commitment to implementing green buildings, driving a qualitative shift in how cities and communities are built. It also reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to enhance the efficiency of natural resource utilization, reducing carbon emissions, and creating healthy and safe urban environments.
This year’s forum discusses the optimal operation of cities aligned with green building standards. It also discusses linking the construction and infrastructure sectors with the environment, climate, and desertification. This is achieved by enhancing the role of the government sector and partnerships with the private sector to contribute to the localization of the sustainable development goals in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
