Riyadh: The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has adopted new municipal requirements to regulate food establishments, aiming to create an integrated operational environment aligned with public health and safety standards. The approved requirements apply to five categories of food establishments, namely restaurants that prepare and serve meals both on-site and for delivery, cafes that serve beverages and snacks, cloud kitchens that handle online food orders, and food kiosks operating within shopping malls and markets.
According to Saudi Press Agency, all food establishments are required to comply with the Saudi Building Code, which includes standards for electrical systems, ventilation, air conditioning, and sanitation. It also requires the use of non-slip flooring, fire- and moisture-resistant ceiling materials, and the installation of efficient drainage systems.
Employees are required to wear appropriate professional attire, carry identification cards, maintain personal hygiene, and refrain from using the facility for residential purposes. Smoking is also prohibited inside the premises, except in designated areas.
The ministry emphasized that these regulations are part of its broader efforts to enhance compliance across various sectors, standardize procedures, improve regulatory oversight, and elevate the overall experience for visitors and beneficiaries.
