Riyadh: The Arab poet Laila Al-Akhiliya emerged as a prominent figure in Arabic poetry, ranking second only to Al-Khansa according to critics. She combined emotional sensitivity, powerful language, and genuine passion, becoming a symbol of female poetic excellence that rivaled her male contemporaries. Al-Akhiliya lived during the early Islamic period and the Umayyad dynasty, excelling in elegy, praise, and romantic poetry.
According to Saudi Press Agency, as part of its initiative to document sites associated with Arab poets, the Ministry of Culture highlights several geographical locations immortalized in Al-Akhiliya's work. These sites, still bearing their names today, are found in Najd, northern Najran, and eastern Bisha and Tathleeth.
Laila Al-Akhiliya remains an enduring figure in Arab literary history, with her poetry reflecting the desert's geography, emotional depth, and sense of belonging.
