Dhahran: Since the launch of its diverse programs and activities, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran has redrawn the cultural map of the Kingdom, establishing itself as a global name contributing to major events in the cultural, scientific, and literary fields.

According to Saudi Press Agency, from its early programs, Ithra has consistently sought to attract rich content and deliver unique offerings, achieving significant milestones over the six years since its public opening in 2018. The center has welcomed more than six million visitors of various nationalities, contributing to its mission of fostering cultural and civilizational exchange with the world. Recognized as a global cultural destination, Ithra was ranked among the 100 places worth visiting worldwide by Time Magazine.

Ithra has also succeeded in serving as a cultural ambassador for Saudi Arabia, with its programs reaching 100 cities around the world and benefiting more than 700,000 visitors. Through these initiatives, the center has highlighted the Kingdom's bright image, supporting its efforts to boost strategic global relations and leave a mark for every Saudi artist, intellectual, and creative figure.

Today, the center houses facilities that have become destinations in their own right. Its library, with a collection of 300,000 books, is regarded as one of the most significant public libraries globally, attracting visitors from across the world. It is also home to the Kingdom's first children's museum, offering specialized programs for young audiences. Ithra's opera-style theater hosts leading international and local performances year-round and enjoys one of the highest levels of audience engagement worldwide.

Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Ithra Technical Services Manager Abdullah Al Buqami described the center as an architectural icon, emphasizing that visitor and staff safety is a top priority. He noted that Ithra has adopted the best international practices used in leading cultural and tourism destinations, equipped with early warning systems directly linked to monitoring and control centers to ensure a smooth and safe visitor experience.

He also highlighted the center's commitment to accessibility, providing comprehensive support for persons with disabilities. Services include mobility access, dedicated parking, Braille resources to assist the visually impaired, and other features that safeguard their rights and enhance their experience.

Ithra was established as a Saudi Aramco initiative near the site of the Prosperity Well, the Kingdom's first commercially viable oil well. This choice of location symbolizes both cultural transformation and the economic milestone that reshaped the Kingdom's modern history.
