Riyadh: The headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) in Riyadh hosted a meeting between the coalition and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). This meeting was attended by IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Pilot Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and UNOCT Director Mauro Miedico.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the cooperation is part of efforts to bolster international counterterrorism initiatives under the "Daleel" initiative. The program aims to implement a specialized legal training program for counterterrorism law practitioners in IMCTC member states, with technical and knowledge support provided by UNOCT experts.
The initiative seeks to enhance the effectiveness of national legal systems in prosecuting terrorism-related offenses, build member states' capacity to combat terrorism financing, and strengthen understanding of international legal instruments related to counterterrorism. It also aims to develop practitioners' practical skills in international cooperation procedures and support efforts to align national laws with international agreements.
The program will focus on several key areas, including the legal framework for international cooperation, mechanisms for mutual legal assistance, joint investigation teams, the role of international organizations in supporting counterterrorism efforts, as well as case studies and practical field applications.
Both parties emphasized the importance of this cooperation in enhancing the efficiency of legal professionals in member states and underscored its vital role in strengthening regional and international security through sustainable and effective legal solutions.
In its initial phase, the initiative targets three IMCTC member states as part of a phased plan to expand its reach to as many members as possible.
