Riyadh: President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Hala Altuwaijri has highlighted the importance of safeguarding the right to adequate housing, stressing that access to decent housing is a fundamental human right that fosters family stability and enhances overall well-being and dignity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, speaking at the fourth edition of the Real Estate Future Forum, held here from January 27 to 29, Altuwaijri underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to human rights through Vision 2030, which embraces a comprehensive development approach that aligns international standards with local values.

She noted that the transformation of the housing sector serves as a prime example of this commitment, with innovative programs designed to address immediate needs and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She added that this rights-based approach has produced tangible results, particularly in empowering women and fostering social inclusion, showcasing the Kingdom's progress in advancing both human rights and the SDGs.

Altuwaijri further emphasized that this development approach focuses on improving the quality of life for all residents by incorporating inclusive principles. These include ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, creating safe spaces for children with parks and pedestrian-friendly paths to schools, and developing vast green spaces that promote community well-being. This approach reflects the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable, inclusive development that provides equal opportunities for all.

She pointed out that Saudi Vision 2030 has brought forth innovative financing methods to ensure housing accessibility for all, saying that adequate housing not only benefits fundamental rights-including those of children, people with disabilities, and the elderly-but also advances multiple SDGs, which the Kingdom incorporates into its housing initiatives to create interconnected, sustainable communities.
