Haramain Railway Spurs Investment Opportunities in Madinah Region

Madinah:Rising passenger traffic on the Haramain High Speed Railway is creating investment opportunities in the Madinah Region across various sectors including transport, hospitality, tourism, commerce, and logistics.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the 69th economic bulletin of the Al Madinah Al Munawarah Chamber highlights that in 2025 the railway carried approximately 8.53 million passengers, averaging 96 trips a day. This marks a 31.5% increase from the 73 trips recorded in 2024. The railway's fleet included 70 trains with 455 passenger carriages, providing a seating capacity of 14,595.

Madinah station saw significant activity with about 6.04 million arriving and departing passengers in 2025, representing a 48% increase from 4.09 million in 2023. This accounts for about 16,600 passengers daily, or 35.4% of all passenger movements across the railway's stations.

The bulletin identifies potential investment opportunities, such as shuttle services between the station, the central district, and hotels; door-to-door transport linking the station, hotels, and the airport; and Umrah packages that combine train tickets, accommodation, and tours. Additionally, potential exists for excursions to historical sites and landmarks, expanding retail, food, and beverage outlets at the station, developing mixed-use projects nearby, and offering parking and car rental services. Peak monthly demand for these services is estimated at about 739,000 passengers.

Sustained growth in rail traffic is expected to support investment in transport, tourism, and hospitality, thereby stimulating the local economy and enhancing Madinah's appeal as an investment destination, the bulletin noted.
