GFSA Launches Food Waste Reduction Awareness Campaign for Hajj 1446 AH

Riyadh: The General Food Security Authority (GFSA), through the National Program for Reducing Food Loss and Waste, has launched a new awareness campaign during the 1446 AH Hajj season, focusing on reducing food waste. The initiative aligns with GFSA's ongoing efforts to minimize food waste and promote sustainable practices.

According to Saudi Press Agency, GFSA Governor Eng. Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Fares emphasized that the annual Hajj season brings millions of pilgrims from around the world to the holy sites, highlighting the need to raise awareness about responsible food consumption. He noted that reducing food waste not only supports food sustainability but also helps mitigate environmental and economic impacts, while honoring the sanctity of Hajj in accordance with Islamic teachings on food preservation.

The campaign will run throughout the Hajj season and features a variety of awareness activities, including on-site educational programs at the holy sites, digital and printed materials, and field events. It is being implemented in collaboration with partners from the government, private, and non-profit sectors.
