French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced Monday that a firefighter died while putting out car fires in the suburb of Saint-Denis, north of Paris, due to riots across the country.
Darmanan said on Twitter that a young man, 24, died while performing his duty to put out the burning car fires despite the very quick care he received from his colleagues, while sending his condolences to the firefighter’s family.
The French Ministry of the Interior announced, according to what was reported by BFM Television, that 157 people were arrested in connection with the riots on Sunday night and early Monday, three policemen were injured, 352 fires were set on public roads in different places in the country, 297 vehicles burnt, 34 buildings were set on fire, and a police station was attacked.
