Jeddah Astronomy Society: Muharram Full Moon to Illuminate the Kingdom’s Skies This Evening

Riyadh: The skies over Saudi Arabia and the Arab world will witness the full moon of Muharram this evening, a celestial event locally known as the "Moon Mango" as it coincides with the peak of the mango harvest season in Jazan region. Jeddah Astronomy Society Director Majed Abu Zahra explained that the name has a local cultural significance and no scientific basis. It is inspired by the association of the full moon with the mango season, similar to seasonal names used in some cultures.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Abu Zahra stated that the moon will rise around sunset and remain visible throughout the night, reaching its full phase at 2:56 a.m. Makkah time. Near the horizon, it may appear larger than usual due to the well-known "moon illusion," while atmospheric conditions may give it an orange or reddish hue.
