FMs from around the world call for protection of civilians in Gaza

CAIRO, Foreign ministers from around the world participating in Cairo Peace Summit on Saturday called for compliance with the principles of international law and the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, in a speech before the summit, urged the Israeli occupation government to respect international law and protect civilians in Gaza, appreciating at the same time the Palestinian government wishes to bring about peace and peaceful coexistence.

In this context, Cleverly called for the need to intensify the efforts of the international community to ensure peaceful coexistence between Palestine and the occupying Israeli entity.

Cleverly also stressed the importance of humanitarian aid reaching the people who need it most, noting on the need to work together to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

For her part, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock underlined that the Middle East region is in dire need of a new peace process that allows the Palestinian side and the Israeli occupation must "live in peace and security side by side in two independent, sovereign states." Baerbock called for intensifying humanitarian efforts to help civilians and deliver humanitarian aid to people in Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing.

She expressed her deep concern about the continuing escalation of violence in Gaza Strip, calling for adherence to international law for the sake of peace.

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed in his speech for the need to be adherence to international law and respect of true values.

He condemned the occupying Israeli occupation targeting of civilians everywhere in Palestine, in addition to the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza Strip under the name of "protection against terrorism." The Turkish minister called on the Israeli occupation to "immediately" stop launching its hostile operations against the Palestinian people, which recently included targeting (Al-Maamdani) Hospital in Gaza.

For his part, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira stressed in his speech that the unprecedented military escalation of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the resulting destruction of facilities and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip "obstructs and threatens the two-state solution and fuels the existing conflict in Palestine." He stressed on the need to search for alternative ways and means to advance the political negotiation process and reach comprehensive solutions to bring peace to the Middle East and manage the conflict through peaceful solutions.

Vieira called on the Security Council to be firm in preserving civilian lives and respecting international law, warning of the possibility of this conflict spreading and becoming regional.

He condemned the Israeli occupation's bombing of hospitals in Gaza Strip, which caused more casualties, as well as humanitarian aid services, calling on the occupying Israeli occupation, as the occupying power, to respect human rights "under any circumstances and without conditions." Vieira called on the international community to make every humanitarian effort to ensure the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors for civilians and an immediate ceasefire.
