Casablanca: Launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Interior, the Makkah Route Initiative began in Malaysia by offering services such as biometric data collection and luggage processing based on pilgrims' transportation and accommodation in the Kingdom, and by 2025, it has expanded to 11 airports across seven countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Trkiye, and Ivory Coast.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom of Morocco has emerged as a key beneficiary of the Makkah Road Initiative, now in its fourth year of implementation through the initiative's dedicated terminal at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.
The Ministry of Interior collaborates with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Hajj and Umrah, Health, and Media, as well as with the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and AI Authority, the General Authority for Awqaf, the Pilgrim Experience Program, and the General Directorate of Passports to ensure the seamless implementation of the initiative.
