Europe is committed to backing Ukraine — Sanchez

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, currently on a landmark mission in Ukraine, on Saturday affirmed Europe’s support for the nation “as long as the situation warrants so and whatever the cost may be.” Sanchez, who was addressing the Ukrainian parliament, declared a new package of European aid, worth euro 55 million (USD 60 million) for the war-afflicted country, according to excerpts of his speech picked up by the Spanish media.

Additionally, euro four million (USD 4.4 million) would be allocated for Ukraine via the UN Development Program to secure green energy for schools, Sanchez added.

“The situation has changed and Ukraine now is engaged waging a counter attack against an enemy that is showing signs of weakness,” he said, alluding to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine will emerge victorious from the war and Spain will back up Kyiv’s bids to join the EU and the NATO, he said.
