Riyadh: The Environment Fund has signed collaborative agreements with several prominent Saudi research institutions, including the University of Tabuk, University of Jeddah, King Saud University, and Imam Mohammad ibn Saud Islamic University, to advance environmental research in areas such as sustainable plant production, wastewater reuse, greywater treatment, coral reef restoration, seed bank development, and the application of nanotechnology.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the fund has also signed an agreement with the Coral Research and Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP) to create a smart framework for informed decision-making in coral reef restoration. This initiative will leverage advanced physiological analysis and long-term monitoring to identify coral colonies resilient to high temperatures, enhancing the effectiveness of restoration efforts and supporting marine biodiversity amidst the growing challenges posed by climate change.
Environment Fund CEO Muneer Alsahli emphasized that the agreements solidify the Kingdom's position as a leader in scientific and environmental innovation. By fostering academic expertise and broadening the scope of environmental research, the fund seeks to cultivate local talent capable of developing solutions that address both the Kingdom's needs and global environmental challenges.
