Makkah: Rapid intervention, as part of the urgent care system within the Saudi Model of Care, helped save the life of an Egyptian pilgrim who suffered a severe heart attack.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the pilgrim was urgently transferred from King Faisal Hospital to the Cardiac Center at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, a facility of the Makkah Health Cluster. The medical intervention began in record time, marking a notable achievement during the Hajj season.
The Makkah Health Cluster stated that upon the patient's arrival at King Faisal Hospital's emergency department, clinical examinations and an electrocardiogram confirmed a severe heart attack requiring immediate intervention.
Thanks to swift coordination between the two facilities, the patient was transferred to the catheterization department at King Abdullah Medical City, where a successful procedure was performed to open the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. The intervention was completed within just 60 minutes-from admission to the restoration of blood flow to the heart.
The cluster stated that this timeframe was half the globally benchmarked duration recommended by international medical associations, which advise that cardiac interventions be performed within 120 minutes of emergency room arrival.
Moreover, the cluster emphasized that this success was the result of seamless integration between the medical teams' expertise and the advanced infrastructure of the cardiac center-factors that enabled the patient's life to be saved and gave him a faster, safer recovery opportunity.
