Commerce Minister Discusses Enhancing Saudi-Malaysian Trade, Economic Partnership


Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received Saudi Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, on Monday.

The reception was attended by Vice Minister of Commerce Dr. Eman bin Habbas Al-Mutairi, Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia Mesaad Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Sulaim, and Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation, implementing joint government programs, and exploring partnership opportunities in priority sectors.

On Sunday, the Saudi minister arrived leading a Saudi delegation of 44 officials and leaders representing 20 government entities and 24 private sector entities on a working visit to Malaysia which aims to boost bilateral trade in goods and services, enhance economic partnership, and launch the Saudi-Malaysian Business Council.

During his two-day visit, Al-Qasabi held a series of meetings with Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir; Mi
nister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Chang Lih Kang; Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz; Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Chairman Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob; Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Chairman Dato’ Sri Reezal; and Department of Standards Director-General Shaharul Sadri Alwi.

During the meetings, they discussed cooperation between both sides, facilitations provided to businesses in both countries, encouragement of exports, enhancing capabilities of Saudi and Malaysian companies to access global markets, and collaborating to build capacities in innovation, emerging technologies, research programs, and e-commerce.

The Saudi minister and his Malaysian counterpart participated in the launch event of the Saudi-Malaysian Business Council.

Dr. Al-Qasabi emphasized that the Saudi Vision 2030 has brought about transformations in the Saudi economy, making it different from what it was at the time of announcing the vision in 2016.

o highlighted the close trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, noting significant opportunities to expand and diversify them as the Kingdom strives to become a global hub for trade and logistical services.
