Riyadh: In a thrilling finale marked by high-level competition and a vibrant audience, the chess tournament of the 2025 Esports World Cup concluded yesterday in Riyadh. The event featured a lineup of the world's top chess players and drew widespread attention for its intensity and prestige.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, a global icon and the tournament's top seed, clinched the championship title with a stellar performance, representing Team Liquid. He secured first place, earning the grand prize of $250,000 and 1,000 club ranking points.

French rising star Alireza Firouzja of Team Falcons finished in second place after an impressive run that affirmed his status among the game's elite. He received a prize of $190,000 and 750 points.

In the third-place match, American Hikaru Nakamura, also of Team Falcons, delivered a strong showing, taking home $145,000 and 500 points.

Indian player Arjun Erigaisi of Gen.G Esports placed fourth, winning $115,000 and 300 points.
