Geneva: Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi has called for launching an alliance of parliaments for international justice without discrimination. The initiative is an open invitation for an international parliamentary bloc to monitor and document cases of discrimination in applying international law, with annual reports submitted to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations. Its goal is to challenge the silence of international institutions on violations of international law and restore justice as a universal right.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Al Yamahi made the proposal in a speech yesterday at the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
He stated that in a world seeking peace and justice, it is impossible to ignore a people being deprived of their legitimate right to self-determination. He emphasized that all international resolutions guarantee the Palestinian people the right to freedom and an independent state, and that the ongoing occupation is a blatant challenge to international justice.
Al Yamahi also called for the conference's final statement to include a global parliamentary call for the official recognition of the Palestinian state.
