Al-baha: Clothing constitutes an integral part of a society's culture, reflecting its heritage, folklore, and national identity, often designed to withstand the prevailing climate. Al-Baha Region is renowned for its diverse traditional costumes, most notably the "jubbah," a historic winter garment that evokes past traditions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the jubbah is a loose-fitting robe renowned for its craftsmanship since ancient times. For men, the garment covers the entire body, while the version for women covers the upper body. Characterized by long sleeves and an open front, it features decorative bands adorning the hem, often in gold with fine red lines. It is traditionally woven from hand-spun white sheep's wool or silk.
Also known locally as "bajad" or "bidi," the jubbah is a substantial piece, weighing approximately 10 kilograms and measuring 120 cm in length and 140 cm in width. The intricate manufacturing process takes more than 30 days, bestowing a captivating elegance upon the wearer.
While the jubbah was once a staple for winter warmth, residents note that its production and daily use have faded as modern development influences fashion choices. Today, this emblem of Al-Baha's heritage is primarily preserved in historical museums and showcased at regional cultural events.
