Wild Lotus Returns to the Valleys of the Northern Borders After Being Almost Extinct

The wild lotus shrub has recently reappeared in the valleys of the Northern Borders region, after being threatened with extinction. Nature reserves and the Saudi Green Initiative contributed to afforestation and land reclamation, protecting and caring for wild areas and restoring many trees and plants to the environmental scene, including this annual shrub with its beautiful red flowers. According to Aman Environmental Society Chairman of the Board of Directors Nasser Al-Majlad, wild lotus grows in the streams in valley of the Northern Borders region. The plant flowers during the summer months; its flowers are red in color and small in size, and have many local names. The scientific name of the shrub is Lotus lanuginosus. Source: Saudi Press Agency
