Makkah: The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases, widely known as Weqaa Center, played a crucial role during the Hajj season 1446 AH, achieving significant results in protecting livestock and plant resources. Its efforts ensured a sustainable environment free from epidemics and zoonotic diseases while facilitating vector control.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the center conducted thorough veterinary inspections of over 1,194,093 head of livestock in supplier pens outside the holy sites. It also cleared more than 1,224,634 imported livestock at seven entry points leading to Makkah after ensuring their safety.

Additionally, Weqaa Center conducted 3,331 inspection and awareness tours in livestock markets and slaughterhouses, along with 3,293 field surveillance and disease vector control tours. For plant health operations, it surveyed over 97,907 hectares in Makkah and the holy sites to monitor desert locusts, black grasshoppers, and leafhoppers.

To ensure high readiness and coordination among relevant authorities in Makkah and the holy sites, Weqaa Center conducted two field simulations focused on plant pests and animal diseases. These exercises confirmed the effectiveness of established plans and the ability to manage emergencies or outbreaks.
