Riyadh: United Nations independent expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons Claudia Mahler praised Saudi Arabia for its clear efforts to improve conditions of older adults. In her briefing to the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC60), Mahler highlighted the qualitative leaps in Saudi care for older people. She noted that during her visit to the Kingdom, she observed offerings rarely found elsewhere, including access to home-based and virtual healthcare, digital civil registry services, and advanced medical care even within prisons.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the statement also noted that the Kingdom was among the sponsors of Human Rights Council Resolution (58/13), which established an open-ended intergovernmental working group to elaborate a legally binding instrument on the promotion and protection of the human rights of older persons. She added that the Saudi support for the resolution reflects the Kingdom's ongoing commitment in this field.

During the session, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of older persons. It expressed appreciation for the efforts of Mahler and called for constructive dialogue and multilateral cooperation to exchange experiences and best practices that safeguard the dignity and rights of the elderly.
