In implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the medical team responsible for Siamese twin surgeries will perform a delicate surgery to separate Hassan and Hussein, Tanzanian conjoined twins, in the King Abdullah Specialist Children Hospital of King Abdulaziz Medical City at the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh.
The medical team will carry out the surgery under the supervision of the Advisor at the Royal Court, the General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah.
The surgery is expected to take 16 hours and will be performed over nine phases with a team of 35 doctors, specialists, and technical and nursing cadres, said Dr. Al Rabeeah in press remarks.
The Tanzanian twins are two years old and weigh 13.5 kilograms together; they arrived in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on August 23, 2023, Dr. Al Rabeeah noted.
The surgery will be the 59th on the list of the Saudi program for separating conjoined twins. The program has supervised 133 cases from 24 countries since 1990.
Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince for the great support and follow-up that they have extended to the conjoined twins’ program.
