Brussels: Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey met today with European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Gulf Region Luigi Di Maio at the European External Action Service headquarters in Brussels to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the EU in areas related to the authority’s work.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Aljadhey also held discussions with Director General of the Directorate-General for Trade Dr. Sabine Weyand during his visit to the European Commission. The talks aimed to explore mechanisms for strengthening trade exchange between the two sides and expanding joint cooperation to ensure the safety of traded products.

The meetings saw the participation of Saudi Ambassador to the EU Haifa AlJedea, along with Dr. Aljadhey’s accompanying delegation. Discussions focused on SFDA-led initiatives to support investment in relevant sectors and underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships with the EU to achieve shared objectives in food, drug, and medical product safety.

These engagements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance trade cooperation, culminating in SFDA’s recent decision to lift the ban on beef and sheep meat imports from EU countries. This reflects progress in trade negotiations and a commitment to facilitating commerce while ensuring the safety of exchanged products between Saudi Arabia and the EU.
