Aseer: The Social Development Bank (SDB) has launched a crafts training program in Aseer, collaborating with Italy's Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School. The initiative, part of SDB's 2025 specialized training program, aims to provide artisans and freelance professionals with training in crafting pieces using copper and gold leaf.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the program draws inspiration from local heritage, particularly the UNESCO-recognized Al-Qatt Al-Asiri art, to produce products that meet market demands and promote sustainable economic opportunities.
The launch event in Abha included the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between SDB and the Alchimia school. This partnership is designed to transfer global expertise to the local market through specialized training programs, empowering artisans and enhancing their competitiveness.
This initiative is a component of SDB's broader strategy to support craft and creative enterprises. Since its inception in 2023, the specialized training program has benefited over 300 participants through 15 programs, resulting in 250 unique products. It has also facilitated financing for 30% of participants and enabled more than 150 families in the cottage industry to expand their operations.
