SDAIA Implements AI-Enhanced Long-Range Cameras for Hajj Transportation Security

General

Mecca: The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, has supported this year's Hajj pilgrimage system with long-range cameras equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The cameras aim to enhance operational efficiency and empower relevant authorities working at vital Hajj sites, especially in the holy sites. These smart cameras enable relevant authorities to perform their duties more efficiently, especially in the holy sites, by providing comprehensive coverage and real-time monitoring based on smart solutions powered by AI, enabling rapid response and immediate decision-making while observing the Hajj landscape.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this step is an extension of the ongoing development plan for the "Sawaher" system, as these cameras rely on advanced capabilities in site security monitoring, detecting violations of regulations, and detecting intruders from wilderness areas. The long-range cameras also represent a qualitative leap in monitoring technologies, thanks to their ability to cover vast areas of up to several kilometers, with a high potential for tracking individuals and vehicles. They were used in the field in Mina and Arafat during this year's Hajj season, where the initial operational results of the two technologies showed a clear improvement in response speed, prediction accuracy, and the efficiency of comprehensive coverage of the targeted sites.

In the next phase, "SDAIA," in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, seeks to expand the scope of application of these technologies to include additional sites, while continuing to integrate advanced smart solutions that contribute to building a more advanced and effective monitoring system, in line with the objectives of the Hajj Service Program and the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
