Makkah: The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef) has introduced a new initiative aimed at equipping small-scale fishing boats with high-efficiency marine engines and satellite distress beacons. This project aligns with Saudi Reef’s strategic and development goals to enhance productivity, improve safety, and support sustainability and economic growth as part of Vision 2030.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Reef Spokesperson Majid Al-Buraikan highlighted that the project empowers small-scale fishermen by providing modern technologies that protect lives and minimize human and material losses. The initiative is designed to strengthen the fishing sector’s appeal as a sustainable income source, enhance the efficiency of supported fish supply chains, and upgrade the infrastructure of traditional fishing activities by improving technical readiness and adherence to safety standards.
Al-Buraikan further explained that the project has been implemented across various regions, including Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk, Aseer, Jazan, and Eastern regions. A total of 450 marine engines, with capacities of 40, 75, and 100 horsepower, alongside 1,000 satellite distress devices, have been distributed. The project also aims to improve governance and oversight of support mechanisms, ensuring optimal use of state resources.
