Makkah: Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Saleh Suhaibani received Executive Director of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) Dr. Hadi Al-Yami, at his office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs branch in Makkah Region. During the meeting, they reviewed the commission's efforts and strategic plans, which constitute a qualitative addition to advancing human rights across OIC member states and reinforce the approach of partnership and joint institutional work among the organization's components. They also emphasized the importance of aligning these plans with the OIC Ten-Year Programme of Action.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting highlighted the importance of the continued and generous support provided by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the commission, including hosting its headquarters in Jeddah, reflecting the Kingdom's firm commitment to supporting the human rights system and joint Islamic action.
The discussion also addressed the commission's role in addressing the humanitarian repercussions of current issues and crises and in strengthening its institutional partnerships. The meeting reviewed the commission's strategic plans for the coming phase within the organization, which aim to enable it to achieve its mission and objectives and meet the aspirations and expectations of member states. These plans focus on clarifying the commission's mandate, enhancing governance, developing work mechanisms, engaging with all member states in parallel, benchmarking against similar institutions, expanding partnerships with relevant organizations and entities, and strengthening the practical impact of the commission's programs to improve efficiency and enhance communication with member states.
The meeting also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and partnerships with unions of news agencies, including supporting professional media coverage, promoting human rights awareness, exchanging content and expertise, enhancing communication channels with member states, highlighting priority human rights issues, and enabling the commission to fulfill its expanding responsibilities while broadening participation and cooperation in service of the peoples of OIC member states.
