Riyadh: The Heritage Commission has announced the launch of the 'Survey and Documentation of Stone Structures' project in the Hail region, in collaboration with the University of Sydney, aimed at inventorying, studying, and documenting the stone structures using the latest scientific technologies in the field.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the project will span over 36 months and consists of several key phases, including the creation of an electronic database, aerial documentation using helicopters and drones, ground surveying of mountains and valleys, as well as conducting archaeological excavations to examine and analyze the selected structures in order to uncover the secrets of these stone formations.
The Heritage Commission will manage the project in collaboration with a specialized team of archaeologists and researchers, both local and international. The project will also provide field training for national staff in surveying and documentation techniques, following the highest quality standards in fieldwork, including the use of modern Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for creating accurate digital maps.
The commission emphasized that this project is part of its series of initiatives to inventory, protect, and develop the Kingdom's cultural heritage, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. It aims to highlight the Kingdom's rich history and civilizational significance, which has connected human cultures through the ages.
